Lyrics support
emphatic
allows you to display song lyrics synchronized with your music
(actually, that was its original purpose in
life.) Currenly, lyrics are only supported for MP3 files.
Lyrics are expected to be contained in the ID3v2
tag of the song, specifically, in the SYLT (SYnchronized Lyrics
and Text) tag.
Tools
There are
several tools available to assist you with the task of
embedding lyrics in your MP3s. If you're a Windows user,
your best bet is the SYLT Lyrics Plugin for
WinAMP, written by Patrick
Giasson. This plugin has
everything you need to find lyrics, tag them with
timestamps, and embed them in your MP3 files.
Using this plugin is the easiest way to embed lyrics
in your MP3s, and it can even find lyrics
submitted by others.
If you're not
a Windows user, XMMS-SingIt is the way to
go. XMMS-Singit can *read* SYLT format lyrics, but it
cannot write them, at least of this writing. It saves
the lyrics in the LRC format, (which can be
submitted to the lrcDB.)
To embed LRC
lyrics in your MP3s, I provide a command line utility called
LRCtool in the emphatic distribution.
Usage of lrctool is in the README file.
Finding Lyrics
The best
place to go to find lyrics for use with emphatic is
the lrcDB website. lrcDB is an
online database of lyrics
already tagged in LRC format. You can search for
lyrics, submit your own lyrics, and download
lyrics submitted by others. Best of all, the
aforementioned SYLT Lyrics Plugin for WinAMP has
lrcDB support built-in, so you can import lyrics from the
website automatically, and
share your lyrics with others directly from within the
plugin. To do so, you must register at lrcDB
first, so go there now and check it out!
